Carver Bench

R 8,000.00

The Houtlander Carver Bench is as versatile as it is beautiful. The timeless design with references to modernist aesthetics is light in weight but not in durability.

An heirloom piece that will be passed down from one generation to the next our benches are crafted to remain, sturdy companions, for a lifetime

Manufactured in durable American White Oak, which is harvested sustainably, all Houtlander furniture is the gold standard of environmentally friendly eco furniture. The raw material captures carbon out of the atmosphere and preserves it in a form that will remain functional and timeless for the ages.

There’s something called a carver’s bench, which is perfectly designed to secure and position pieces of wood so talented carvers can do their best possible work.

Houtlander’s Carver Bench is completely different, but shares the wood carver’s desire for precision, artistry and perfection in an article that will bring pleasure for decades to come. The Carver Bench shares elements of our Diner Bench, including the tensioned beam under the seat that gives it a strength that belies its appearance.

The “carver” arms at each end add function, of course, but they also enhance the versatility of this classic modern design and provide more options for ways to “dress” it as part of your dream home.

Like the Diner Bench, its Carver Bench cousin is available in lengths of 1.2m, 1.5m and 1.8m. It’s made to order and can be specified in one of our four hardwearing finishes, ranging from natural to ebony.

Choose wisely, because this is not an item you’ll use for a while then want to throw away. Its beauty, versatility and durability mean it will become an heirloom, to be used and enjoyed across the generations.

Our Oak:

We only use sustainably harvested American oak to craft our furniture. Timber is an inherently sustainable material - trees are (ideally) an infinitely renewable resource. But many manufacturers rely on monocropped pine, or other woods, due to cost and ease. This practice destroys soil and the surrounding ecosystem. All our oak is grown and harvested in indigenous forests on the east coast of America. Trees are felled only once they’ve reached full maturity. Then they are drawn from the forest in minimally invasive ways that preserve the surrounding vegetation. It’s all about delivering a truly sustainable and stunning product.

Manufacturing Process:

Paragraph: Carpentry and joinery are two of the oldest crafts on earth, and furniture making ordinarily requires a huge amount of skill in order to deliver truly exceptional results. Unfortunately, these traditions are largely dying off, particularly in the global South, making great wooden furniture hard to come by at reasonable prices. At Houtlander we want as many people as possible to have access to beautiful, well-crafted furniture which lasts a lifetime. This is why we’ve combined expert craftsmanship with 5-axis CNC technology, allowing us to create perfect curves, joints and furniture features in an affordable and replicable way.
